The response to the call for donations to the Tsunami disaster victims has been overwhelming. There has been concern raised about bogus fund-raisers who might be out to defraud the public.
IRAS would like to advise the public to channel their donations to organisations that have been issued fund-raising permits or to any collection centers authorized by them.
The Commissioner of Charities (IRAS) issues permits for public fund raising appeals for foreign charitable purposes. IRAS has so far issued permits to the following organizations for raising funds for the Tsunami disaster victims:
- Singapore Red Cross Society
- The Salvation Army
- Touch Community Services Ltd
- Singapore International Foundation
- YMCA
- United Nations Association of Singapore
The list will be updated at IRAS's website at http://www.iras.gov.sg.
The public may direct their enquiries to IRAS via charities@iras.gov.sg or tel: 6351-3347.
