Lower taxes with rebate New!
Options to share parent relief New!
Pre-filled data for commission earners New!
3 in 5 taxpayers benefit from No-Filing Service

Taxpayers will enjoy more convenience and benefits as the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) rolls out the Individual Income Tax filing season for the Year of Assessment (YA) 2015.

Lower taxes with YA 2015 Personal Income Tax Rebate

All tax residents in Singapore will enjoy a personal income tax rebate of 50 per cent, capped at $1,000, for YA 2015. The rebate, announced at the 2015 Budget Speech, will be granted automatically to all eligible taxpayers and will be reflected in the Notices of Assessment (i.e. tax bill).

Options to share a higher quantum of parent relief

For the first time, taxpayers will have the option to share the parent relief amongst claimants.

The maximum quantum for parent relief 1 has also increased by between $1,000 and $3,000, depending on the type of parent relief taxpayers are claiming.

Easy filing with pre-filled income data

Filing a tax return will be easier for 65,000 individual commission earners (e.g. real estate agents, insurance agents, multi-level marketers, etc.) as IRAS pre-fills the commission information for the first time in myTax.iras.gov.sg this year. A total of 110 commission-paying companies have joined the e-Submission of Commission Income Scheme, to e-submit to IRAS the commissions paid to individuals.

Around 1.7 million taxpayers will continue to enjoy the convenience of pre-filled employment income information in their online returns. The pre-filling of employment income has been available to taxpayers since the introduction of the Auto-Inclusion Scheme (AIS) for Employment Income. Under the AIS, employers send the salary information of their employees to IRAS electronically. Employers with 12 or more employees are now on board this scheme.

Tax filing a non-event for 3 in 5 taxpayers

1.31 million taxpayers, including 26,000 first-time taxpayers, will benefit from the No-Filing Service (NFS) for this year’s tax season. This means that tax filing will be a non-event for 3 in 5 taxpayers.

Taxpayers who have been informed of their eligibility for the NFS this year will not need to file a tax return. For NFS taxpayers who have no changes to the pre-filled income and reliefs in their online tax returns, most of them will be able to preview their tax bill and request early assessment from 1 March 2015.

Taxpayers who are not on the NFS would have received a letter or SMS informing them to file via myTax.iras.gov.sg by 18 April 2015. They will have to file a tax return this year, even if their employers have sent their salary details to IRAS under the AIS.

Taxpayers who are unsure whether they need to file a tax return this year can SMS filetax <space> NRIC/FIN to 91164900 or call 1800-356 8300.

File today at myTax.iras.gov.sg

We would like to remind all taxpayers, including sole proprietors and partners, to file their income tax returns online by 18 April 2015, or to send in their paper returns by 15 April 2015. Please file early to avoid the last-minute rush and late filing penalties.
