After spending my initial three years as an educator, the desire to broaden my horizons and seek fresh experiences in the public service led me to IRAS.

 

Presently, I am part of the Corporate Tax Division, specialising in reviewing and processing Research & Development (R&D) claims. In my role, I conduct reviews and audits of strategic R&D projects, on-site visits to manufacturing facilities, and engage with the private sector. This hands-on involvement has not only deepened my understanding of corporate tax systems, but also broadened my professional perspective and experience.

 

I’m grateful for the opportunities to rotate across various departments, receiving excellent mentorship from my supervisors, as well as actively contributing to numerous impactful projects, all of which have contributed to my growth.

 

Working at IRAS has been incredibly enriching – the experiences along the way have contributed significantly to my professional growth. I've forged lifelong friendships throughout my journey, making challenges that came my way worthwhile and the successes even more rewarding. IRAS is not just been a workplace; it's been a platform for continuous learning, diverse experiences, and lasting connections.

 

My interest in IRAS was sparked by an experience with the Simplified Tax Declaration process, which left a lasting impression with its user-friendly interface and taxpayer-centric approach. I was particularly drawn to IRAS' forward-thinking and continuous efforts to inject technology to transform tax administration in Singapore.

 

In my current leadership role, I spearhead Knowledge Management (KM) and Human Resource (HR) tech transformation. My primary focus is ensuring the effectiveness of the internal Knowledge Hub platform in facilitating seamless business collaboration. Additionally, I actively explore ways to leverage technology for the automation and streamlining of HR services and processes.

 

In recent projects, I had the privilege of collaborating with dedicated and enthusiastic colleagues to re-imagine and redesign processes, striving to make them simpler and efficient. This journey, despite its challenges, has been immensely rewarding as we endeavour not only to enhance processes but also prioritise equipping our staff with essential skillsets to navigate future challenges

 

The innovative and collaborative culture at IRAS is my constant source of inspiration. The continuous encouragement to push past boundaries and explore new possibilities fosters an environment where we can all realise our full potential.  At IRAS, we work as a team, persistently striving, never giving up and never shying away from the pursuit of excellence.

 

Joining IRAS as a Goods and Services Tax (GST) registration officer has been a fulfilling journey. In my role, I work closely with aspiring business owners, witnessing their passion and drive as I assist them in the the intricacies of GST registration. These interactions have not only enriched my professional experience but also reaffirmed the meaningful impact of my role.

Beyond individual engagements, I am also involved in projects that have a direct impact on the taxpayers and stakeholders’ experiences. This includes reviewing standard operating procedures as well as the review of GST schemes.

What sets IRAS apart is our commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment, as well as the work arrangement that promotes healthy work-life balance, which I am grateful for. Most importantly, I am grateful for the camaraderie among my colleagues. Being part of an organisation that actively contributes to nation building has made my journey with IRAS truly meaningful and rewarding. IRAS is a community where every individual's contributions are valued and celebrated.

 

My journey at IRAS started as a temporary staff and, over the course of four years, I have experienced an enriching professional journey. The culture at IRAS is characterised by a collaborative spirit, where team members are always eager to assist an support one another.

 

Beginning as a frontliner managing the service line, I was offered an opportunity to transition to the live chat team. Presently, my role involves addressing and resolving tax queries. Some of my proudest achievements include the opportunities to contribute during challenging periods, such as during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. I had the privilege of being deployed to assist other divisions, acquiring a diverse range of skills in the process.

 

Colleagues in the different divisions have always been warm and supportive, offering valuable mentorship throughout my deployment. I am grateful for these opportunities for professional development across diverse divisions that have enabled me to refine my interpersonal skills.

 

There’s a distinct sense of fulfilment in helping others, and it propels me to do what I’m doing today. Despite occasional challenges, the gratitude expressed by those I have assisted outweighs any difficulties I’ve encountered. IRAS has provided me with a platform to make a positive impact, and the supportive environment ensures that every day brings new learning experiences and unique opportunities.
